This Week in Tarot: Get Your Head in the Game

I was never really into sports as a kid. Although, I did play t-ball for a short time. But, I was much happier being an observer. When I pulled this card, I instantly thought of the movie, "A League of Their Own" (1992) with Tom Hanks. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it! I'm also not a sports movie fan. But, this one made it onto my favourites list!

This week we have the four of cups reversed.

After being the teams bench warmer for so long, it's now time to get in the game my friend! You're needed now (finally!) The days of sitting around contemplating life, (while life moves around you) is over. Stop kickin' the dirt around your feet and look up. You'll have a new outlook this week- a fresh perspective. You just need to look! Until you really look, you may not be aware of what's going on around you. What's the score? Who's up next? What's the game plan? Let's go rookie! Hustle, hustle, hustle!

If you can only open your eyes to the new game plan, you'd be hittin' the ground running. No more pouting around! Once you get back into the game, you won't be so damn bored anymore. Let someone else hand out water and towels okay? You've got some playing to do!

For you, this could mean speaking up at a meeting at work, finally sitting down and writing that blog post you weren't so sure about, getting back into your exercise routine (or trying a completely different one), finding the time to meditate (and then actually doing it!) This is your week to accomplish something. Set a goal, and go for it baby!

Need some ideas to get started with your "game plan"? Let's get the ball rolling with a tarot consultation.

Did you enjoy this post? Comment below, and let me know what your goal is for this week.

I have a 7 day "spring cleaning" tarot challenge that's coming up soon! Sign Up and start receiving your writing prompts and inspiration for clearing out the winter "yuckie's" inside-out. (Starts March 14th)
Don't have a tarot deck? No problem! I will still give you a tarot card and prompt to work with!

Creativity & Fear: Why You're Not Getting S*** Done!

Before the Virgo full moon on Monday the 22nd, I was procrastinating on a personal project of mine. I used to be the queen of starting projects but then never finishing them, and then completely avoiding them (I had a crown and everything. Ha!). But seriously, I started feeling guilty about it. I knew I needed to sit down at my computer and start typing. Just START already Hali!

It got me thinking- why do we do this to ourselves? I love what I do, and this project is no different. It started as a dream, then a rough sketch of ideas, and finally, I'm now seeing all the pieces come to together. It's exciting! I can't wait to launch it! So why am I avoiding it like an annoying old high school acquaintance at the grocery store?

Luckily, I have this amazing book called 'Art & Fear: Observations on the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking' By: David Bayles & Ted Orland. I can't remember for the life of me, where I found this little treasure, but I've had it for many years. When ever I feel uninspired, or like my passion project is getting tedious- I re-read the sections I've underlined in this book. They always make me see that there is indeed a little piece of fear inside of me spoiling the moment. What am I afraid of? (Something I need to look into!) After reading it, I found my mojo again, and began typing furiously. I pimped out my calendar, created some goals, AND deadlines (something I never do for myself). I'm on track. No more, "I'll just finish it tomorrow". NO! "I WILL finish it TODAY". No excuses.

On a side note: I've been watching the show, "Bar Rescue". I now always quote Jon Taffer (voice impression and all!) "I don't embrace excuses! I embrace solutions!" Amen Jon! Now I need a drink.

"You...cling to what you already know you can do- away from risk and exploration, and possibly further from the work of your heart. You find reasons to procrastinate, since to not work is to not make mistakes. ...To demand perfection is to deny your ordinary (and universal) humanity, as though you would be better off without it. Yet this humanity is the ultimate source of your work; your perfection denies you the very thing you need to get your work done."

-Art & Fear

This Week in Tarot: The Hierophant & Tyler Durden Hanging Out

This week we have The Hierophant reversed. If traditions and unwritten rules of society are making you itch, this is the week to break out of the mold. Try something outside of the box, and don't worry about raised eyebrows from onlookers. My favourite quote from Fight Club, "sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken", is a reminder that you don't need to fake it to "fit in". This week, it's okay to take those feathers out, and tell the rest of them to shove it!

You need to find or create your own path from scratch. The answers you're looking for probably aren't going to be found outside of yourself. They most likely were within you the whole time. If there's a mentor, or guru you follow- you may want to take a break from following their every piece of advice, either for your own sake, or because they're really not all their cracked up to be! If you must ask a teacher/mentor for help- tread carefully. Their teachings could be to benefit themselves, not you.

You have your own path to follow, and that's what you need to focus on this week. You know yourself better than anyone else. Listen to your inner voice.

How can you think outside the box this week? Lets consult the tarot

This Week in Tarot: 5 of Wands- Calm The F*** Down!

Everyone needs to chill the fuck out this week! We just celebrated Valentine's Day and now everyone's at each others throats? What-the-hell! (Chill Pill anyone?)

This week you could be butting heads with someone, or a group of people. When everyone's yelling and flailing their arms, it's pretty hard to hear anyone's opinion. The result is no ones getting anything accomplished- just wasting precious time and energy. Often times, fiery personalities want to be heard above others (or at least heard first!) and this can cause some serious tension.

There could be some (friendly) competition at work this week. Let's keep it friendly though, shall we? No need to turn it into loud arguments and god forbid- fist fighting! Lots of brainstorming happening this week. Brainstorming can be a wonderful, beautiful thing in a group, but it can also leave people fuming. Make sure everyone get's their two cents in without any rude interruptions.

On a lighter note, this card can also encourage you to be more playful, and literally "playfight". Get on the floor and wrestle with your kids. Or you and your significant other can enjoy some "wrestling" in the bedroom (if ya know what I mean!).

Feeling fiesty this week? Need someone to just listen? Relax and get some clarity from one of my tarot readings.

Need to escape for a while? Let's hang out. I'm on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, & Pinterest. Take your pick.

Forget the Pity-Party! Here's 6 Ways to Enjoy Valentine's Day (Coupled or Single)

I might get a virtual spanking from those who are single, but whatever, (maybe I like that).

I've been married for 4 years now, and we don't usually make a huge deal out of Valentine's Day, but we'll go out on a dinner date just to have a break from the kids. I've never had any "problems" with this holiday because I never viewed it as something ONLY couples could enjoy. When my sisters and I were young, our mom would make little goodie bags for us, made up of cookies, Hershey's kisses, and maybe a pencil from the dollar store that had hearts on it (or something like that). We would make our parents a card, and sometimes get them a small gift. When handing out Valentine's cards to kids at school, I always made sure to write an extra special note to my friends, to show them what they meant to me.

As I got older, I would hear friends, or even strangers complaining, and dreading the upcoming Valentine's Day.
"It's so stupid!"
"It's not even a real holiday"
"Makes me want to puke seeing all these couples!"

Wow, really? You don't have anyone in your life you love? Nobody in your life loves you? There has to be at least ONE person! I'm not a fan of pity-parties. I hope everyone finds love. I truly believe there is someone for everyone out there. I'm a fan of love. I love love.
Platonic love.
Unconditional love.
Family/Parental love.
Passionate love.
Lusty-love.

Whatever kind of love- I dig it.
What I don't jive with- "My life is so sad, I'll never find love. Screw love! Screw all those couples out there loving each other! Blah Blah Blah!"

You're right. With that attitude you'll never find love.
One thing I've learned- if you don't love yourself, how is anyone else supposed to love you? It's not easy- learning to love yourself. If you don't even like the person you are, how do you expect anyone else to love your true self? If love is hard to find, first look within. That's the best place to start.

Secondly, can we stop being so serious about Valentine's Day? Here's 6 ways to enjoy this day.

1. have a girls night, or boys night out. Get your single pals together and enjoy celebrating your friendships. Show them how much they mean to you.

2. Go to a movie with a family member, friend, or your sweetie.

3. Invite the neighbours over for coffee/tea, and bake some cookies

4. Do something fun with the kids. A kid-parent "date"(good old quality time!)

5. Treat yourself! Head out to the spa. Order in your favourite food and binge watch all your favourite movies! (Treat yo'self!) (You could totally do this if you're coupled too.)

6. Buy coffee for a random stranger. Give a stranger a compliment. Making others feel good, makes you feel good too! Spread the love!

"Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
Get out of bed,
and find something to do."

This Week in Tarot: 7 of Swords & The Pink Panther

Sometimes I scare myself with the cards I pull for my weekly draw! This week we have the 7 of Swords. It's astrological association is Moon in Aquarius. On February 8th (today!) we have the new moon in Aquarius. I know, spooky right?! Sheesh!

The 7 of Swords this week is letting us know that this is not the time to bullshit! There's really never a time to bullshit- but especially this week, mmmkay? Do not cut corners, or try to take on more than you can chew. There could be some deception this week, whether you're personally trying to get away with something, or someone is trying to BS you. Reflect, and manifest the relationships you want to have. This new moon in Aquarius is telling to take a step back and analyze who's in your tribe, or what tribe are you apart of? Is helping or hindering?

You may feel like you have everything planned out well this week, but in reality- not so much. Your plans may backfire on you unfortunately.
Remember your actions have consequences. Don't charge forward. Stop. Really think things through. What are people saying to you? How can you tell if they're telling the truth? Don't believe every little thing you hear this week. You may have to be stealthy, and do a little detective work, before making final decisions about a particular situation or person.

The Moon and I

Moon & Mirth...

It all started with the moon. She’s feminine, moody, emotional, intuitive, and mysterious. Her and I get along fabulously. I’m a lot like her, and she’s a lot like me. We connect on a deeper level that words can barely describe. She’s a soft, quiet, guiding voice within me. However feminine and beautiful her energy- she only comes out at night. She embraces the dark, and we all have a dark side. Her and I- we don’t judge.  We listen, and observe.
When reading tarot, I imagine myself as the moon. A glowing beacon of light within the dark.
Whether I’m writing, or giving a tarot reading, I always incorporate some form of humor, and joy. I’m okay with clients getting emotional in front of me- analyzing their light and shadows. But after that emotional purge, I like to throw in some lightheartedness. Maybe a joke, or at the very least, be that beacon of light.

This Week in Tarot: Take Me to Funkytown!

Last week we charged forward, waving our freak flag proudly. This week, it's like coming back to our normal lives after going to Burning Man. The energy drops, and it's time to take it down a notch or two. You could be feeling in limbo this week, trying to figure out how to balance your energy and lifestyle again. Sometimes, when energy shifts so dramatically we're not sure how to roll with it. That's okay- find your footing this week. Go slow. Be kind to yourself. If you're naturally an introvert, this is your week to enjoy some alone time and nourish your body, mind, and soul.

After the fun of last week, you could suddenly feel depressed, or more pessimistic than usual. "All good things must come to an end", as they say. Have faith that you'll eventually get out of this "funk", and start feeling funky again (the good kind of funk).

If you want to get your funk back, just head on over to Funkytown!

Need some guidance on getting your funk back? I'll be your guide- come on over!
