Birthday Questions & Reflections

Yup. It's that time of year again- my birthday. My mom teared up a bit when she looked at me smiling, and said, "26 years old". With that tone of, "holy shit you're growing up. You're an adult now! Where has my baby gone?"

Please don't remind me mother. I know I'm young, but I feel old (kind of).
I decided to reflect on my birthday, and ask myself some tough questions I haven't before.

where was I this time last year?
Oh god, memory please help me. (My memory isn't very good). March 2015 I had gone on a sushi date with my Husband, (We did the same thing this year). I was given an ice cream maker, and food dehydrator (woo! Exciting. Actually it was. I freakin' love that thing! It becomes an addiction too. You start looking for anything in your kitchen to dehydrate. Seriously).

I still had my old business then too. For those that don't know me well, I had a soap making business, and sold my soaps on Etsy. I also had some of my beauty products in an art gallery gift shop. The business obviously didn't last, but at that time I was pretty excited about it. (Retail- never again!!)

What would my 15 year old self think of me now?
"What the fuck are you wearing, you sellout!" That's probably what My 15 year old self would say to me now (ha!). Yeah, sorry younger me, the goth look isn't for me anymore.

"You're a tarot reader? That's pretty sweet!" Yes, younger me. 'Tis sweet and totally rad. Bet you never thought you'd catch the entrepreneur bug eh?

"You married a guy from... BRAZIL?!" Yes. That's a long (beautiful) story. Maybe I'll tell you about it over coffee sometime. Oh ya, the coffee thing never went away. Coffee everyday. Coffee coffee coffee!

Dear younger me,

This is probably where you never thought you'd end up, but I promise you it is exactly where you need to be. (Sorry, but that small town you hated with every fibre of your being? Well, you're gonna buy a house there. Trust me- the city sucks!) You are stronger than you think. You really can do amazing things, and you will. You don't have bad luck, so stop telling yourself that. All the bad shit that's happened will teach you so much, so try not to get down on yourself. It won't last forever. Please note: you have a stellar bod! Seriously, enjoy those magnificent boobs!
Know that you are loved, will be more loved, and are capable of showing more love. I encourage you to do that, even when it's difficult. Especially when it's most difficult.

PS. You will never get any taller. Sorry. (5'0" for life honey)

what do I want to accomplish this year?
A lot. Next question.
Okay, in more detail- what I want to accomplish is big. Bigger than I ever imagined. A business that allows me to spend more time with my family. A business that I love, and that can support me.
I want to at least start my yoga teacher training this year. I want to learn more about astrology. I want to buy a new couch, with the money I made myself from my business. I also want to get my full license. (Yep, I don't drive. It freaks me out).

how do I feel?
I feel young and old at the same time. Kind of confused. Twenty-six is still young, but inside I feel older. Yet sometimes, I feel like an overgrown teenager. I feel like I'm supposed to be an adult, and act like an adult, but sometimes I just feel like I'm faking it. "This is how I adult right?"

Otherwise I feel great! I'm probably the healthiest I've ever been, and for the first time in my life I really do like myself. I like the person I've become and I don't shy away from saying good things about myself.

what's been the best and worst thing this past year?
The best thing this past year was closing my old business. It felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders. Which ultimately made way for my current business- Tarot (which I love a whole lot more!) Last summer I also started my first vegetable garden, and that had been a big dream of mine. I was pretty successful with it, and I can't tell you how rewarding it is to grow your own food- simply incredible!

The worst thing that happened this past year? I actually can't think of anything. Sure there's some bumps here and there, but nothing serious. Do I have horseshoes up my ass? Maybe. If so, they can stay there.

what have I learned?
I've learned a lot! in 2015 I sat down and diligently, and religiously researched everything I could on Tarot, and taught myself the art of tarot reading. I'm still learning something everyday too. I've learned to be more focused on the present, as in what I'm able to do right now with that what I have. I've learned tons of new stuff about running a small business, and I'm super excited to pump things up to business 2.0!
I've learned to be more focused, centered, and calm.

This Week in Tarot: Get the Creative Juices Flowing!

This week we have the wonderful Ace of Wands!

It's all about fire energy this week! Spring Equinox is happening this weekend (March 20th), So the Ace of Wands is lighting a fire under your hiney, letting you know now is the time to get moving and grooving baby! If you've been feeling tired, emotional, and reclusive- wash off the sleeping potion and reclaim your inner power (your inner fire!).

If there's a project, (especially a creative one) that you've been putting off, get started on it. Write the rough copy, sketch ideas, collect paint chips, etc. get the creative juices flowing with some inspiring ideas. The energy this week could make us feel overly zealous, and it's important not to set our sights too high. It's great to start new things, but remember to finish them as well.

Plant the seeds for tomorrow, but don't forget to water them occasionally.

You've got the power honey, #MakeItHappen

This Week in Tarot: Feel What You Need to Feel

This week in Tarot, we have the 6 of cups reversed!

Astrologically, it's going to be an intense week for many of us. Emotionally, internally- intense!

We may be internalizing so much, we become out of sync with the people around us. We all have our own "baggage" that we'll be dealing with. Childhood trauma, or memories could come back to haunt us. Wounds from the past may break open, and remind us what wasn't fixed, will keep showing up until dealt with.

Imagine the past as a muddy puddle. It's perfectly okay to jump around in it. But only for a short time. Don't sit in it, and get get stuck in the mud.

What ever emotions, or thoughts come up this week- take note. Feel what you need to feel, and then move on. Let go. Grow. If a trusted friend, or loved one wants to be your shoulder to cry on, don't push them away. You don't need to fight every battle alone.

This is an excellent week for journaling, meditation, going to the spa, and taking extra good care of yourself (emotionally, mentally, and physically).

Need some help sorting through your thoughts and emotions? I'm all ears! Get a reading with me here

This Week in Tarot: Get Your Head in the Game

I was never really into sports as a kid. Although, I did play t-ball for a short time. But, I was much happier being an observer. When I pulled this card, I instantly thought of the movie, "A League of Their Own" (1992) with Tom Hanks. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it! I'm also not a sports movie fan. But, this one made it onto my favourites list!

This week we have the four of cups reversed.

After being the teams bench warmer for so long, it's now time to get in the game my friend! You're needed now (finally!) The days of sitting around contemplating life, (while life moves around you) is over. Stop kickin' the dirt around your feet and look up. You'll have a new outlook this week- a fresh perspective. You just need to look! Until you really look, you may not be aware of what's going on around you. What's the score? Who's up next? What's the game plan? Let's go rookie! Hustle, hustle, hustle!

If you can only open your eyes to the new game plan, you'd be hittin' the ground running. No more pouting around! Once you get back into the game, you won't be so damn bored anymore. Let someone else hand out water and towels okay? You've got some playing to do!

For you, this could mean speaking up at a meeting at work, finally sitting down and writing that blog post you weren't so sure about, getting back into your exercise routine (or trying a completely different one), finding the time to meditate (and then actually doing it!) This is your week to accomplish something. Set a goal, and go for it baby!

Need some ideas to get started with your "game plan"? Let's get the ball rolling with a tarot consultation.

Did you enjoy this post? Comment below, and let me know what your goal is for this week.

I have a 7 day "spring cleaning" tarot challenge that's coming up soon! Sign Up and start receiving your writing prompts and inspiration for clearing out the winter "yuckie's" inside-out. (Starts March 14th)
Don't have a tarot deck? No problem! I will still give you a tarot card and prompt to work with!

Creativity & Fear: Why You're Not Getting S*** Done!

Before the Virgo full moon on Monday the 22nd, I was procrastinating on a personal project of mine. I used to be the queen of starting projects but then never finishing them, and then completely avoiding them (I had a crown and everything. Ha!). But seriously, I started feeling guilty about it. I knew I needed to sit down at my computer and start typing. Just START already Hali!

It got me thinking- why do we do this to ourselves? I love what I do, and this project is no different. It started as a dream, then a rough sketch of ideas, and finally, I'm now seeing all the pieces come to together. It's exciting! I can't wait to launch it! So why am I avoiding it like an annoying old high school acquaintance at the grocery store?

Luckily, I have this amazing book called 'Art & Fear: Observations on the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking' By: David Bayles & Ted Orland. I can't remember for the life of me, where I found this little treasure, but I've had it for many years. When ever I feel uninspired, or like my passion project is getting tedious- I re-read the sections I've underlined in this book. They always make me see that there is indeed a little piece of fear inside of me spoiling the moment. What am I afraid of? (Something I need to look into!) After reading it, I found my mojo again, and began typing furiously. I pimped out my calendar, created some goals, AND deadlines (something I never do for myself). I'm on track. No more, "I'll just finish it tomorrow". NO! "I WILL finish it TODAY". No excuses.

On a side note: I've been watching the show, "Bar Rescue". I now always quote Jon Taffer (voice impression and all!) "I don't embrace excuses! I embrace solutions!" Amen Jon! Now I need a drink.

"You...cling to what you already know you can do- away from risk and exploration, and possibly further from the work of your heart. You find reasons to procrastinate, since to not work is to not make mistakes. ...To demand perfection is to deny your ordinary (and universal) humanity, as though you would be better off without it. Yet this humanity is the ultimate source of your work; your perfection denies you the very thing you need to get your work done."

-Art & Fear

Feeling confused, or simply need an inspirational kick in the ass, I'm your woman! Let's dive into your problem together.

This Week in Tarot: The Hierophant & Tyler Durden Hanging Out

This week we have The Hierophant reversed. If traditions and unwritten rules of society are making you itch, this is the week to break out of the mold. Try something outside of the box, and don't worry about raised eyebrows from onlookers. My favourite quote from Fight Club, "sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken", is a reminder that you don't need to fake it to "fit in". This week, it's okay to take those feathers out, and tell the rest of them to shove it!

You need to find or create your own path from scratch. The answers you're looking for probably aren't going to be found outside of yourself. They most likely were within you the whole time. If there's a mentor, or guru you follow- you may want to take a break from following their every piece of advice, either for your own sake, or because they're really not all their cracked up to be! If you must ask a teacher/mentor for help- tread carefully. Their teachings could be to benefit themselves, not you.

You have your own path to follow, and that's what you need to focus on this week. You know yourself better than anyone else. Listen to your inner voice.

How can you think outside the box this week? Lets consult the tarot

Spring equinox is right around the corner. I have a "spring cleaning" 7 day equinox tarot challenge! Don't have a tarot/oracle card deck? That's totally fine, because if you sign up you'll receive writing prompts and worksheets, along with a tarot card to work from in those 7 days.
Spring time is about rebirth- so let's rise like a phoenix from the ashes and start the new season fresh!

This Week in Tarot: 5 of Wands- Calm The F*** Down!

Everyone needs to chill the fuck out this week! We just celebrated Valentine's Day and now everyone's at each others throats? What-the-hell! (Chill Pill anyone?)

This week you could be butting heads with someone, or a group of people. When everyone's yelling and flailing their arms, it's pretty hard to hear anyone's opinion. The result is no ones getting anything accomplished- just wasting precious time and energy. Often times, fiery personalities want to be heard above others (or at least heard first!) and this can cause some serious tension.

There could be some (friendly) competition at work this week. Let's keep it friendly though, shall we? No need to turn it into loud arguments and god forbid- fist fighting! Lots of brainstorming happening this week. Brainstorming can be a wonderful, beautiful thing in a group, but it can also leave people fuming. Make sure everyone get's their two cents in without any rude interruptions.

On a lighter note, this card can also encourage you to be more playful, and literally "playfight". Get on the floor and wrestle with your kids. Or you and your significant other can enjoy some "wrestling" in the bedroom (if ya know what I mean!).

Feeling fiesty this week? Need someone to just listen? Relax and get some clarity from one of my tarot readings.

Need to escape for a while? Let's hang out. I'm on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, & Pinterest. Take your pick.

Forget the Pity-Party! Here's 6 Ways to Enjoy Valentine's Day (Coupled or Single)

I might get a virtual spanking from those who are single, but whatever, (maybe I like that).

I've been married for 4 years now, and we don't usually make a huge deal out of Valentine's Day, but we'll go out on a dinner date just to have a break from the kids. I've never had any "problems" with this holiday because I never viewed it as something ONLY couples could enjoy. When my sisters and I were young, our mom would make little goodie bags for us, made up of cookies, Hershey's kisses, and maybe a pencil from the dollar store that had hearts on it (or something like that). We would make our parents a card, and sometimes get them a small gift. When handing out Valentine's cards to kids at school, I always made sure to write an extra special note to my friends, to show them what they meant to me.

As I got older, I would hear friends, or even strangers complaining, and dreading the upcoming Valentine's Day.
"It's so stupid!"
"It's not even a real holiday"
"Makes me want to puke seeing all these couples!"

Wow, really? You don't have anyone in your life you love? Nobody in your life loves you? There has to be at least ONE person! I'm not a fan of pity-parties. I hope everyone finds love. I truly believe there is someone for everyone out there. I'm a fan of love. I love love.
Platonic love.
Unconditional love.
Family/Parental love.
Passionate love.
Lusty-love.

Whatever kind of love- I dig it.
What I don't jive with- "My life is so sad, I'll never find love. Screw love! Screw all those couples out there loving each other! Blah Blah Blah!"

You're right. With that attitude you'll never find love.
One thing I've learned- if you don't love yourself, how is anyone else supposed to love you? It's not easy- learning to love yourself. If you don't even like the person you are, how do you expect anyone else to love your true self? If love is hard to find, first look within. That's the best place to start.

Secondly, can we stop being so serious about Valentine's Day? Here's 6 ways to enjoy this day.

1. have a girls night, or boys night out. Get your single pals together and enjoy celebrating your friendships. Show them how much they mean to you.

2. Go to a movie with a family member, friend, or your sweetie.

3. Invite the neighbours over for coffee/tea, and bake some cookies

4. Do something fun with the kids. A kid-parent "date"(good old quality time!)

5. Treat yourself! Head out to the spa. Order in your favourite food and binge watch all your favourite movies! (Treat yo'self!) (You could totally do this if you're coupled too.)

6. Buy coffee for a random stranger. Give a stranger a compliment. Making others feel good, makes you feel good too! Spread the love!

"Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
Get out of bed,
and find something to do."

This Week in Tarot: 7 of Swords & The Pink Panther

Sometimes I scare myself with the cards I pull for my weekly draw! This week we have the 7 of Swords. It's astrological association is Moon in Aquarius. On February 8th (today!) we have the new moon in Aquarius. I know, spooky right?! Sheesh!

The 7 of Swords this week is letting us know that this is not the time to bullshit! There's really never a time to bullshit- but especially this week, mmmkay? Do not cut corners, or try to take on more than you can chew. There could be some deception this week, whether you're personally trying to get away with something, or someone is trying to BS you. Reflect, and manifest the relationships you want to have. This new moon in Aquarius is telling to take a step back and analyze who's in your tribe, or what tribe are you apart of? Is helping or hindering?

You may feel like you have everything planned out well this week, but in reality- not so much. Your plans may backfire on you unfortunately.
Remember your actions have consequences. Don't charge forward. Stop. Really think things through. What are people saying to you? How can you tell if they're telling the truth? Don't believe every little thing you hear this week. You may have to be stealthy, and do a little detective work, before making final decisions about a particular situation or person.

The Moon and I

Moon & Mirth...

It all started with the moon. She’s feminine, moody, emotional, intuitive, and mysterious. Her and I get along fabulously. I’m a lot like her, and she’s a lot like me. We connect on a deeper level that words can barely describe. She’s a soft, quiet, guiding voice within me. However feminine and beautiful her energy- she only comes out at night. She embraces the dark, and we all have a dark side. Her and I- we don’t judge.  We listen, and observe.
When reading tarot, I imagine myself as the moon. A glowing beacon of light within the dark.
Whether I’m writing, or giving a tarot reading, I always incorporate some form of humor, and joy. I’m okay with clients getting emotional in front of me- analyzing their light and shadows. But after that emotional purge, I like to throw in some lightheartedness. Maybe a joke, or at the very least, be that beacon of light.

This Week in Tarot: Take Me to Funkytown!

Last week we charged forward, waving our freak flag proudly. This week, it's like coming back to our normal lives after going to Burning Man. The energy drops, and it's time to take it down a notch or two. You could be feeling in limbo this week, trying to figure out how to balance your energy and lifestyle again. Sometimes, when energy shifts so dramatically we're not sure how to roll with it. That's okay- find your footing this week. Go slow. Be kind to yourself. If you're naturally an introvert, this is your week to enjoy some alone time and nourish your body, mind, and soul.

After the fun of last week, you could suddenly feel depressed, or more pessimistic than usual. "All good things must come to an end", as they say. Have faith that you'll eventually get out of this "funk", and start feeling funky again (the good kind of funk).

If you want to get your funk back, just head on over to Funkytown!

This Week: David Bowie in a Dr.Seuss-mobile

The Sun has officially moved from Capricorn to Aquarius! If your birthday falls between January 20th and February 19th, you're an Aquarius. I've always thought Aquarian's were pretty cool (I may be biased though because my sister is one).

Aquarius is all about inventing, going against the grain, originality, creativity, and a worldly feeling. This week there could be a thirst for knowledge and broadening our horizons. The Capricorn sun we just said goodbye too was all about, "be mature! Stand up straight! Do your job! Get in line!"
The Aquarius sun says, "fuck that noise, I'm outa here!" I picture David Bowie driving away in a Dr. Seuss inspired vehicle.

The restrictions and limitations we felt (and maybe even embraced) earlier this month are now becoming an uncomfortable itch. Breaking free and flying your freak flag feels much more appealing.

This weeks tarot card is: The Chariot

The Chariot says, "charge ahead! You know what you want, so go get it!" Emotions are under control, and you know what to say, and when to say it. Drive that Dr. Seuss-mobile to victory with pride! Other's opinions won't matter a whole lot this week, because you'll be too busy inventing something, or re-inventing yourself. Your true colours are coming out!

On the downside, you Aquarians can become too rebellious. Be careful you're not running people over to reach your goal or final destination.
So, with that I leave you with David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel" (R.I.P David!)

This Week: Face Your Fears

This week could be another tough one ladies and gents! This week we have the 9 of swords. The figure in this card looks like she's woken up from a nightmare, as 9 swords hover behind her as if in a dream like state. Luckily, whatever mental turmoil you've been facing, should be coming to an end soon.

However, to get past any negative thoughts or anxiety, you're going to have to change your mental state. A brain re-wiring if you will. You can lay in bed, and be haunted by your thoughts forever, OR, you can get dressed, brush your teeth, and take one step at a time. Be extra kind to yourself this week. It could be a very sensitive time.

Remember, you are the creator of your world. Your thoughts, and expectations affect your reality. It may seem overwhelming, but you need to show yourself some love this week. Be very gentle and forgiving. If negative thoughts pop up, don't wallow in them. Instead look at them objectively and ask yourself why negative thoughts or feelings may be coming up.

Affirmation This Week:
"I will face my fears with love!"

Commit & Let Go- My 2016

Absolute amazing-craziness last week!

I won a 15 minute reading with the fantastic Theresa Reed (The Tarot Lady) in a contest she held before Christmas. Theresa is a personal inspiration to me as a tarot reader and entrepreneur, so I was over the moon when I heard I won a reading from her! She is fantastic! It's nice to get a reading from someone else for a change, rather than reading for myself. I do sometimes, but letting someone else read my cards can just be refreshing!

Anyway, after reading my horoscope, and doing a short reading for myself (a couple days before) I learned that 2016 is going to be a stellar year for me! Theresa definitely confirmed it! Before Christmas I could feel it in my bones- "2016 is going to be big!" Ideas have been pouring out of me. I'm inspired, and actually doing something with that inspiration in a tangible way! I'm working on myself, my biz, my relationship, my home- everything. Everything is just taking off like a shooting star!

This year I need to get over my fears (which I haven't pinned down yet- more shadow work needed!) Commit to my goals, my dreams, to partnership, to learning. But also, to let go. Let go of thought patterns that still kick me in the ass sometimes. Let go of what happened in the past. Let go of outcomes, and commit to the journey.

Fuck-yes!

"Let go of outcomes, and commit to the journey".

That's my mantra for this year! That's it baby!

I've also started diving into Danielle LaPorte's "Desire Map", and loved her suggestion of looking up words we use to describe what we desire, and digging deep into the words themselves. So I did.

(Letting go, can also be:) Release: to free from confinement, bondage, obligation, pain, etc.; let go: liberation, freedom. to allow to be known, issued, done, or exhibited.

Commit: trust, do, to pledge or engage oneself, express intention/feeling.

YESSS!!! I seriously cannot believe what's happening right now!
Freedom came up a lot while writing in the Desire Map workbook. The words 'release' & 'commit' are kind of a conundrum though. How can you be releasing something, but being committed as well? How can you commit, when you're releasing or letting go? I've been talking a lot about shadow work. Figuring out the dark and light side of myself. Playing with the yin-yang energy. This year I can add committing and releasing to that list! Oh the dualities of life!

I did a reading for myself the other day and drew:
The Magician (#1)
Queen of Cups (reversed)
The Wheel of Fortune (#10)

My birthday is March 15 1990 (03+1+5+1+9+9+0= 28 /  2+8=10  /  1+0=1)

Okay universe just stop it! How crazy-cool is that?!

I know a lot of people say, "this is going to be my year!" (every new years eve). But seriously, I feel like this really is going to be my year (and I never say that)! Like I said before, big things are happening, and are going to happen. I'm awake. I'm listening. Show me what I need to know.

This Week: 7 of Wands Reversed

In the upright position, this card would represent standing your ground and defending your beliefs. However, with Mercury still in retrograde you may be too "tired" to defend yourself and call it quits this week. There's a mood of, "lets agree to disagree", but others may not want to leave it alone. (Some people can't take a hint!)

Self esteem may be on low batteries this week, and any negative inner voices may confuse you, resulting in ignoring everything. Nothing productive will be accomplished if you don't listen to yourself, or anyone else.

This week could feel overwhelming, and stressful. However, to try and keep it to a minimum, don't compare yourself to others. Stay focused, organized, and plan to the best of your ability. If quiet time is what you need- take it!

"Communication Breakdown, (it's always the same!")

This week's draw is the 8 of Swords

With Mercury going retrograde tomorrow this card seems fitting- maybe not in the best way, but that's what I love about tarot- it gives it to you straight. No fluff!

Mercury has to do with communication of all kinds. Speaking, emails, snail mail, travel, and technology. So, when it goes retrograde, all the positive sides of those things do a flip, and become not so great. Mail gets lost, misunderstandings with people, computer dies, printer doesn't print, travel plans get delayed, car accidents etc.
Mercury retrograde will last from January 5th-26th.

This week you may find that communication is restricted, whether you're limiting yourself, or someone else is limiting you. You may be feeling overwhelmed, and putting the blindfold on is your way of avoiding smoothing over any conflicts. With mercury retrograde starting, a lot of people just want to hide under the covers and hibernate until it's over. That's one to do it, but unless you have 3 weeks vacation, it's not doable for most people. Mercury retrograde is not an invitation to hide. It's an invitation to reflect, review, and be more mindful.
Take the blindfold off, and stop the pity party and self restrictive thinking. Use that big brain of yours to cautiously and carefully solve problems. This week may not be a week to make huge decisions, or move quickly. Most people are back to work this week after enjoying the holidays, so it's important to move/travel slowly, mindfully, and carefully.
Be kind to yourself this week. Give yourself lots of time to finish things. Eat healthy foods to keep your energy up. Try to stay positive, even if things are a little chaotic or disorganized. You don't need to add more stress and chaos to a situation. Be the sturdy rock- for yourself, and others.

Affirmation For The Week:
"I speak to myself the way I wish others to speak to me- kindly, and respectfully"

Get the Led out and dance the stress away with this song!
